Our substitute teachers, paraeducators, tutors, and support staff come from diverse walks of life. Some are former educators, others are professionals, retirees, or college students. Each one took a different path to begin working in our schools. Here are just a few of their inspiring stories.

 

Kalisha Carter | Substitute Teacher

Kalisha Carter enjoys working with kids, and substitute teaching allows her to fulfill that dream. As a substitute teacher, Kalisha especially likes working closely with students who need a little extra help so they don’t fall behind.   Read more

Bonnie Weeks was a teacher for several years until she chose to stay home to raise her children. Bonnie never lost her passion for teaching and decided to return to the classroom as a substitute teacher. Karen Grassell | Former Insurance Product Analyst  Karen Grassell has always loved math. Before becoming a substitute teacher nine years ago, she had a career as a product analyst in the insurance industry. She brings all of that knowledge to her middle and high school students. Joe Maurizi | Retired from Corporate Healthcare 

Joe Maurizi was hesitant to apply for a substitute teaching position without prior teaching experience. However, he thought of his own struggles as a past student and wanted to help current students with similar challenges.
