Mechanical Technician I
Summary:
The Mechanical Technician will modify, test, and repair machinery and equipment under the direction of engineering staff or physical scientists. This entry-level role is ideal for candidates with at least two years of hands-on experience, especially within automotive and diesel truck engines. The technician supports the design, testing, and manufacturing of industrial machinery and other equipment, utilizing technical skills in mechanical assembly and competency with engineering drawings and related computer applications.

Additional Information:

  • Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8am–5pm

  • Pay: $26.10/hr

  • Location: Bloomfield, CT

  • Duration: 6 months with possibility for extension

Skills Required:

  • Mechanical assembly skills for small and large parts/components using hand tools

  • Basic computer skills

  • Good verbal and written communication skills

  • Detail-oriented, team player

  • Ability to make engineering sketches/drawings

  • Ability to conduct basic calculations to establish manufacturing, construction, and installation standards/specifications

  • Basic knowledge of engineering science and technology

  • Experience with computer applications and design software

Major Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare part sketches and write work orders/purchase requests for contractors

  • Draft detail drawings or sketches for drafting room or part fabrication requests

  • Review project instructions and blueprints to determine test specifications, procedures, and objectives

  • Identify, modify, and plan requirements for fabrication, assembly, and testing of parts

  • Discuss design changes, manufacturing/assembly methods, and drafting procedures with staff

  • Inspect lines/figures for clarity; return erroneous drawings for correction

  • Evaluate tool drawing designs by measuring dimensions and comparing with original specs for form and function

  • Assemble diesel engine test and prototype hardware, and conduct engineering lab tests on assembled hardware

Education/Experience:

  • Associate degree in engineering technology or a related field is a bonus

  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience required

  • Automotive and diesel truck engine experience preferred

  • Certificates or degrees are a plus, but not required
