Kelly® Science & Clinical is seeking a Medical Science Liaison (MSL) for a direct-hire (permanent) opportunity with one of our innovative diagnostics partners.

This position offers the opportunity to serve as a key scientific expert supporting novel diagnostic technologies designed to improve clinical decision-making in infectious disease and acute care. The MSL will collaborate closely with field-based Territory Account Executives to provide clinical education and scientific insight during product implementation and market expansion.


Medical Science Liaison – Direct Hire (Permanent)

Schedule: Full-time, day shift
Location: West Coast or Southwest U.S. (CO or west), near a major airport
Travel: Approximately 60%
Compensation: $150,000–$195,000 annually + ~$25,000 annual bonus (90% performance-based / 10% company outlook)


Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of Scientific and Clinical Education, the Medical Science Liaison will provide scientific, technical, and clinical education support for new and existing diagnostic assays. This individual will work cross-functionally with internal stakeholders and externally with clinicians, laboratorians, and key opinion leaders (KOLs) to advance awareness and adoption of emerging diagnostic innovations.


Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a scientific expert and external ambassador, providing clinical education and support to healthcare professionals.

  • Partner with Territory Account Executives to deliver scientific and medical presentations during the customer education phase.

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clinicians, pharmacists, infectious disease specialists, and laboratory leaders across assigned territories.

  • Facilitate continuing education programs, workshops, and scientific discussions to support adoption of diagnostic innovations.

  • Stay current on emerging research, infectious disease trends, and evolving clinical guidelines related to diagnostic testing and clinical decision support.

  • Analyze and interpret clinical and statistical data; translate scientific information for diverse audiences.

  • Identify and engage with KOLs to promote hospital guideline development and diagnostic stewardship initiatives.

  • Attend relevant scientific congresses and industry conferences to represent the organization and gather market intelligence.

  • Collaborate with internal Marketing, Clinical, and Regulatory teams to support strategic initiatives and field feedback.

Qualifications

  • Pharm.D., Ph.D., or Advanced Nursing Degree (MSN, NP, or DNP) required.

  • 2–5 years of experience as an external Medical Science Liaison or equivalent scientific field-based role required.

  • Minimum 2 years of clinical experience (outside academia) required—may include laboratory or clinical sales experience in diagnostics, infectious disease, or related area.

  • Demonstrated ability to build rapport and credibility with physicians and healthcare leaders.

  • Strong knowledge of diagnostic laboratory principles, infectious disease testing, and/or in vitro diagnostics (IVD).

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentation and teaching experience.

  • Experience working with FDA, CLIA, and ISO-regulated products preferred.

  • Self-motivated, organized, and comfortable managing multiple priorities with autonomy.

  • Ability to travel up to 60%, including overnight travel.
