Job details
Primary duties
- Machine operation: Set up and operate saws, including bandsaws, to cut materials according to production specifications.
- Material handling: Load and unload material from the machine, sometimes using a forklift or overhead crane.
- Quality control: Inspect and measure workpieces to ensure cuts are accurate and materials meet quality specifications.
- Maintenance: Perform routine checks and preventative maintenance on the saw to ensure it is safe and operating correctly.
- Record keeping: Maintain accurate production records and complete necessary paperwork.
- Housekeeping: Keep the work area clean, organized, and safe.
Required skills and qualifications
- Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is typically required.
- Technical skills:
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work orders.
- Proficiency in using measurement tools like rulers and tape measures.
- Basic math skills for setting stops and guides to specific lengths.
- Experience with operating machinery, and sometimes forklift operation.
