Maintenance Mechanic – Preventive Maintenance
Pay Rate: $22.00/hour
Shift: 2nd Shift (primary)
Must be flexible to cover 1st and 3rd shifts when required.
Position Overview
The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for performing scheduled preventive maintenance on a wide range of plant equipment and production machinery. This role includes identifying potential issues, completing repairs, and ensuring equipment stays in optimal operating condition. A key focus of the role is the care, maintenance, and monitoring of industrial batteries and the battery area.
Key Responsibilities
Preventive Maintenance & Repair

Perform routine oiling, greasing, and lubrication of plant equipment such as conveyors, pallet jacks, pallet destackers, multi-shifters, and other machinery based on PM schedules.

Conduct preventive maintenance inspections, checking for wear on shafts, belts, chains, sprockets, hoses, lubrication systems, and other critical components using instruments such as feeler gauges, calipers, and ohmmeters.

Inspect machinery to diagnose mechanical or electrical issues and determine appropriate corrective action.

Use blueprints, schematics, manuals, and verbal instructions to troubleshoot and repair equipment.

Replace or repair worn/defective components, including bearings, hoses, relays, switches, fuses, belts, lubrication lines, and hydraulic valves.

Perform basic electrical troubleshooting using voltmeters and electrical schematics; clean or replace contacts, fuses, relays, and related components as needed.
Equipment & Facility Care

Maintain equipment cleanliness and appearance, including removing dirt, oil, and grease and performing touch-up painting as required.

Assist with the installation, rebuilding, or restoration of machinery to original operating condition.

Perform minor facility repairs such as light carpentry, plumbing, sheet metal repair, painting, or concrete patching as needed.

Organize and maintain spare parts inventory; log usage to support accurate monthly restocking.
Battery Maintenance (Primary Responsibility)

Charge, change, clean, and wash industrial batteries according to established safety and operational procedures.

Perform monthly preventive maintenance on all batteries.

Operate battery wash water evaporators and log volumes processed to ensure compliance.
Requirements & Expectations

Ability to work assigned 2nd shift and flex between 1st or 3rd (night) shifts as needed.

Willingness to work overtime when required.

Strong mechanical aptitude and experience using hand tools, diagnostic tools, schematics, and maintenance equipment.
