Location: 2790 Columbus Road, Granville, Ohio 43023
Pay rate: $25ph
Shift: Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm
Contract duration: 2 years

The Asphalt R&D Technician actively participates in teams that deliver technical solutions having significant business impact on Asphalt and Roofing Business. This role contributes to the business’s success by providing technical support on new product, process, and input materials for Roofing and Asphalt related products. The technician is expected to become proficient not only in routine quality testing, but also apply their skills to the advanced testing the R&D team is actively developing.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrates a commitment to safety
- Implement a personal safety action plan and review with leader.
- Engagement in regular safety meetings and safety huddles.
- Ensure rigorous compliance to standard safety procedures and OC corporate policies.
- Ensure a commitment to zero accidents while working with hot asphalt and various chemicals.
- Practice good housekeeping and maintenance habits.
- Provides various asphalt testing support
- Become proficient with all types of asphalt testing (e.g., rotational viscosity, penetration, softening point, rheology, etc.)
- Understand ASTM and/or AASHTO laboratory test methods and how to effectively test products accordingly, as well as SOP and JHA protocols
- Will be responsible for data collection, analysis, and reporting accurately and timely.
- Understand the different physical properties of different types of asphalts while troubleshooting results.
- Understand the different instruments and be able to troubleshoot each.
- Balance multiple assignments across individual or multiple projects.
- Collaborate with product developers, scientists, and engineers to deliver quality data and clearly communicate their timeline and observations.
- Able to safely adapt to challenging projects which are innovative and new to OC.
- Maintains a clean, safe and operational environment at all times.
- Provide team support with calibrations, preventative maintenance, housekeeping and inventory.
- Be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Office.
Education & Experience Requirements:
- A four year technical/lab/engineering/science degree is desired with 0-2 year of experience in lab operations desired OR a two year technical/lab/engineering/science associate degree with 1-3 years of experience in lab operations in lieu of a four year degree.
- Must understand and have good basic computer skills. A working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint) required.
- Mechanical, hands-on aptitude with analytical equipment is needed for working in the lab.
- Ability to operate lab equipment. Ability to provide quality test results in a timely manner and communicate those results to management both verbally and written.
- Ability to work both independently and within a group.
- Ability to analyze data and suggest and implement improvements in product testing. Improve the efficiency of operation.
- Ability to solve problems and think outside the box to innovate unique solutions for customer products and processes.
- Preference of a minimum of 2 years lab experience
