Job Title: Deputy Project Leader (Telecommunications)

Position Summary:
The Deputy Project Leader (Telecommunications) serves as a training role focused on learning supervisory and management skills. This position involves preparing strategic plans and budgets, developing comprehensive project plans, and analyzing statistical data. The Deputy Project Leader must have a background in technology systems integration, covering both passive and active communication infrastructure, and demonstrate proven leadership in guiding design and construction teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in leading a team providing Communications and Electronic Safety and Security infrastructure, including ISP/OSP pathways, cabling, networking and wireless systems, CCTV, access control, A/V, and other technology applications.

  • Aid in designing and deploying Information Transport Systems and telecommunications systems.

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of a project or project subsection.

  • Identify and resolve change orders.

  • Price, track, and manage change orders.

  • Plan and monitor cash flow versus cash expenses.

  • Maintain as-built documentation as work progresses.

  • Document project issues and conditions.

  • Plan and execute project completion and manage punch lists.

  • Develop specific goals and organize tasks to achieve them.

  • Read and interpret blueprints and project specifications.

  • Research and compile submittals; price change orders, and prepare estimates for partially designed projects.

  • Confer with supervisory personnel, owners, contractors, and design professionals to address work procedures, complaints, and construction issues.

  • Communicate externally, representing the company to various stakeholders.

  • Ensure timely decision-making, submission of RFIs, and thorough documentation of communications and agreements.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or similar field.

  • 5+ years of experience with a telecommunications integrator or electrical contractor.

Experience:

  • Experience managing telecommunication and security projects ($500,000 to $10M).

  • Familiarity with contract drawings, subcontracts, contract addendums, specifications, change orders, RFIs, and submittals.

  • Experience installing Information Transport Systems.

  • Proficient with MS Office Suite, sophisticated project management, CPM scheduling, cost modeling, and AutoCAD software.

  • Knowledge in design techniques and concepts for electrical and security projects.

  • Strong interpersonal and writing skills, problem-solving focus, and ability to organize activities.

  • Comfortable working in diverse environments and maintaining reliable attendance.

  • Ability to work flexible hours, with up to 25% travel required.

  • Must have reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, and a satisfactory driving record.

Preferred Skill Set:

  • Experience with Accubid Estimating or equivalent related to electrical installations.

  • Proficiency in Primavera P6 CPM Scheduling or equivalent.

  • Willingness to travel to project locations as needed.

Abilities:

  • Prolonged exposure to computer screens; ability to sit for extended periods.

  • Dexterity for manipulating objects, such as using a keyboard.

  • Good listening and communication skills.

  • Ability to apply general rules to specific problems logically.

  • Comprehend and articulate written and spoken information.
