 Medical Laboratory Scientist – Generalist
 

Schedule: Various Shifts Available: Day and Night

Key Responsibilities & Duties:

The MLS will be responsible for performing a wide range of laboratory tests across multiple disciplines. The core duties involve:

  • Comprehensive Testing: Performing tests in:

    • Blood Banking


    • Chemistry


    • Hematology


    • Immunology


    • Microbiology


    • Urinalysis


    • Coagulation



  • Accuracy and Timeliness: Ensuring all collected specimens are tested accurately and results are provided in a timely manner.


  • Microscopic Analysis: Utilizing a microscope to evaluate cells and bacteria for shape, size, and color.


  • Colorimetric Analysis: Identifying colorimetric reactions and subtle color differences in crystals.


  • Equipment Operation: Operating and troubleshooting various complex laboratory equipment, including automated systems, electronic equipment, computer software, and precision instruments.


  • Result Evaluation: Critically evaluating test results and identifying abnormal values, especially in specific population groups.


  • Reporting: Reporting laboratory findings to pathologists and other healthcare providers.


  • Procedure Development & Modification: Developing and modifying laboratory procedures as needed to optimize efficiency and accuracy.


  • Quality Assurance: Establishing and monitoring programs to ensure the accuracy of tests, including participation in proficiency testing.


  • HIPAA Compliance: Strict adherence to HIPAA policies and regulations to maintain patient confidentiality.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology.


  • Experience: 2 years of experience as a Medical Technologist or Clinical Lab Scientist.


  • Certification/Licensure:

    • ASCP/ASCPi, NCA, or AMT certification OR


    • Eligibility to sit for an appropriate licensing exam in Oregon (This implies the job might be located in or near Oregon, or they follow Oregon’s licensing standards).
