JOB SUMMARY

As a Laboratory Assistant, you will play a key role in preparing samples for analytical and microbiological testing of food products, ingredients, and environmental materials. This position is critical in ensuring the accurate application of approved microbiological techniques and methodologies within a food testing laboratory.


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare samples for indicator organisms, pathogens, and chemical analyses.


  • Apply aseptic techniques consistently in all laboratory activities.


  • Maintain and prepare media and reagents for daily microbiological testing.


  • Monitor inventory and report expendable supplies needed for testing.


  • Conduct routine lab maintenance, including cleaning, sanitizing, and trash disposal.


  • Perform quality control tasks such as incubator temperature monitoring, control organism inoculation, and media validation.


  • Follow designated processes, procedures, and techniques in line with FSNS policies and customer requirements.


  • Maintain laboratory conditions including equipment readiness, supplies, QA programs, and detailed records throughout all procedures.


  • Perform duties in a clean, safe, efficient, and hygienic manner.


  • Communicate clearly and timely with team members and supervisors.


  • Support team goals by effectively managing personal priorities and contributing to the success of the Food Safety Net Services Team.


  • Ensure personal and team safety in all working environments.


  • Complete all required training as scheduled.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School diploma or GED required


  • Associate degree in Life Science or 2 years of lab experience preferred


  • Familiarity with food testing laboratory concepts, procedures, and best practices


  • Ability to travel is preferred


  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience
