Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8 AM – 5 PM | Direct Hire Salary: $80,000-$110,000

Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Research and Development Chemist to lead formulation efforts for personal care, cosmetics, and OTC products (sunscreens, anti-acne). This role involves developing product formulations, troubleshooting production issues, scaling up approved formulations, and ensuring compliance with FDA regulations and cGMPs. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership and technical expertise, driving innovation while overseeing lab staff and collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and formulate cosmetic, personal care, and OTC products from concept to final production.

  • Optimize formulations for cost reduction and improved performance.

  • Ensure compliance with FDA regulations, cGMPs, and industry standards.

  • Scale-up approved formulations, identifying critical process variables.

  • Troubleshoot production issues and batch variations.

  • Set product specifications and write compounding procedures.

  • Supervise and coordinate pilot batches.

  • Conduct vendor research for raw materials and manage ingredient specifications.

  • Interpret laboratory findings, assess risks, and provide strategic recommendations.

  • Train, mentor, and supervise lab staff.

  • Stay up to date with industry trends, materials, and consumer insights.
 

Requirements:

  • BS in Chemistry, Cosmetic Science, Physical Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related sciences with 8+ years of formulation experience (or an advanced degree with 6+ years).

  • Proven expertise in advanced formulation techniques, regulatory compliance, and R&D.

  • Strong understanding of FDA regulations and cGMPs.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong leadership and communication skills, ability to work cross-functionally.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and formulation software.

  • Preferred: PhD or Master’s Degree with 10+ years of experience in personal care formulation.
