Cold Header Machine Operator (2nd Shift)

$18.00-19.00/hr | Elk Grove Village, IL
Schedule: Monday–Friday | 2:30 PM – 12:00 AM
Job Type: Contract-to-Hire (Kelly Services employee for 3–6 months, with opportunity to be hired on permanently)
Start: ASAP

If you’ve run a cold header and you’re comfortable working with dies and precision measurements, this is a solid opportunity. This team runs on quality, consistency, and accountability. Training and development are available—but we need someone who can step in and contribute immediately.

What you’ll do
• Operate and monitor cold heading (cold header) machines producing precision parts
• Perform and support setups, changeovers, and adjustments (based on your experience level)
• Handle dies/tooling including basic die changes and ensuring correct setup to spec
• Read and follow blueprints/technical drawings and job travelers
• Verify materials (wire grade/diameter) and load material accurately
• Inspect parts throughout the run and complete quality documentation
• Use precision measuring tools daily, including:
Micrometers (required)
Calipers (required)
• Additional gauges/inspection tools (preferred)
• Maintain a clean, safe workstation and follow safety procedures at all times

Requirements (please read carefully)
• High School Diploma or GED
6 months to 1+ year of cold heading/cold header experience (or closely related fastener, metal forming, die placement experience)
Hands-on experience working with dies/tooling in a production environment
• Confident using micrometers and calipers to verify tolerances
• Able to read basic blueprints and follow work instructions with minimal oversight
• Able to lift up to 50 lbs and stand/walk for an 8–10 hour shift
• Dependable attendance; steady work habits; quality-first mindset
• Basic computer skills

Nice to have
• SPC checks/documentation experience
• Strong troubleshooting ability on cold heading equipment

• 7-year background check (National Criminal Record Locator)
• 5-panel urine drug screen (THC-free)
