Job Title: Machine Operator
Rate of Pay: $17
Schedule: 6-4:30pm
Location: Kirkville, NY

The Machine Operator is responsible for loading and monitoring production equipment, inspecting machined parts to ensure conformance to customer specifications, and maintaining accurate production documentation. This position requires attention to detail, adherence to safety and quality standards, and a willingness to learn machining operations and quality control procedures.


Essential Functions:

  • Load production equipment with raw material into the machine feed mechanism.

  • Monitor machine operation and report irregularities to a lead operator, setup technician, or supervisor.

  • Measure and inspect parts per inspection plans to ensure compliance with customer specifications.

  • Enter Statistical Process Control (SPC) data as required and respond appropriately to out-of-control conditions.

  • Notify Quality Control or supervision of any questions or concerns related to part quality.

  • Perform routine machine maintenance and lubrication as required.

  • Complete all required documentation accurately, including routing cards, tool change logs, and count sheets.

  • Properly identify parts and enter production data into the information system.

  • Move completed parts to designated locations after machining and quality verification.

  • Communicate effectively with previous and next shifts to ensure smooth shift transitions.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Learn and perform minor tool adjustments and tool changes to maintain part quality.

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area; keep floors free of oil, chips, and debris.

  • Perform daily safety inspections on equipment and use proper machine guarding and lifting techniques.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to learn and interpret blueprints, inspection plans, and work instructions.

  • Ability to learn the use of precision measuring instruments, including micrometers and calipers.

  • Basic computer skills to enter production data, print routing cards, and complete required documentation.

  • Ability to learn and properly respond to SPC data and quality trends.

  • Ability to use hand tools for tool changes, including hammers, screwdrivers, Allen wrenches, and other hand tools.

  • Willingness and ability to learn basic tool sharpening techniques.

Education, Training, and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED required

  • Short-term trade schooling or on-the-job training preferred

  • Previous exposure to a manufacturing or factory environment and a strong willingness to learn machine operations
