Machine Operator (Finishing)
Location: Chicago 60618 (North Side)
Pay: 17.50/hr
2nd Shift: 2PM-10:30PM (Monday through Friday)
What you’ll do as a Finishing Machine Operator:
- Utilize abrasive belts and wheels to finish hardened dental instruments
- Finish instruments with technical difficulty and with excellent precision and eye/hand coordination to achieve required product dimensions and unique customer requirements
- Progress to different product families as skills are mastered at each category level, usually after 1–2 years
- Detect unacceptable quality on instruments and correct any practices or processes that do not meet established standards
- Maintain compliance standards and specifications for products using specified measurement tools and drawings
- Follow all OSHA and company-specific guidelines for safety
- Record work performed via bar code reader system, or in manual log where/when appropriate
- Complete other duties, as assigned
Requirements:
- Minimum of one year experience with machines, tools, equipment, including grinding machines and small tools for set up
- Basic reading and writing (English), and basic math skills. Minimal to moderate physical strength is needed
- Ability to perform routine, repetitive operations while maintaining attention to detail
- Must work well under general supervision; required to make some independent judgments concerning product quality and take necessary corrective action
- Able to learn to use measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, protractors, and have basic blueprint reading ability
- Ability to learn new instruments, using written specifications or an approved sample
- Ability to train others to follow established work instructions and assignments (minimum 1 year)
