Safety Specialist (EHS) – Manufacturing Support

$23.00/hr+ | Kankakee, IL
Job Type: Full-time, Temp-to-Hire (3–6 months) or Direct Hire (based on experience) through Kelly Services
Shift: Mon–Fri | 7:00 AM – 4:30 PM
Start: ASAP (after screenings/onboarding are completed)

This role sits just below the Safety Manager. We need someone who’s approachable and coach-like, but also firm, clear, and consistent when standards get tested. The right person will learn the operation first, build trust on the floor, and then drive improvements without creating unnecessary friction—especially with Maintenance.

If you have recent, real-world safety experience and you can handle pushback calmly while still getting results, apply.

Path: 3–6 months temp-to-hire or direct hire (based on experience)
Work Setting: Manufacturing/warehouse environment (floor presence required)

What You’ll Do
• Support the Safety Manager with daily EHS coverage and execution
• Conduct floor walkthroughs, identify hazards, and drive corrective actions to closure
• Lead/assist incident and near-miss investigations; write documentation that is clear and concise
• Coach operators and Maintenance on safe work practices and compliance expectations
• Deliver toolbox talks, onboarding support, and refresher training as needed
• Support audits/inspections and ensure findings are corrected in a practical, timely way

Safety experience must be recent (within the last 5 years) (required)
• Manufacturing or warehouse safety experience strongly preferred
• Comfortable being on the floor daily (standing/walking the operation as needed)
Assertive without being abrasive: can take pushback and still drive compliance
Concise communicator: clear, direct, solution-focused
• Able to learn the operation first and improve it without trying to overhaul everything immediately
• Strong follow-up and documentation habits (on time, accurate, professional)

Why You’ll Like This Role
• High-visibility position with real influence
• Direct support from safety leadership with clear expectations
• Strong growth potential for people who can coach, enforce, and follow through
• Practical, floor-based safety culture (not just paperwork)

What to Be Ready For (Important)
• You’ll get pushback at times—staying calm and consistent is key
• You must balance relationships with accountability (supportive, but not passive)
• Follow-through matters: actions must close, not linger

Offer is contingent upon completion of:
7-year NCRL (National Criminal Record Locator) background screening
Drug test
