Cost Management Technical Resource
Job Description:
Serves as a technical resource for Cost Management on projects and maintenance activities. Supports the establishment of the overall cost baseline, with responsibility for monitoring and controlling costs within established tolerances. Coordinates data inputs from various disciplines and functions to ensure accurate cost forecasts and reporting. Engages with the project steering team to understand causes of cost deviations and helps define mitigation actions. Requires proficient technical skills in analytical methods or operational processes to perform assigned activities, and may act as an informal mentor to less experienced team members.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Integrates project cost estimates, workhour estimates, and project schedules into the Cost Management baseline.
- Establishes and maintains work breakdown structures based on work process norms and execution strategy.
- Develops and maintains cost reports, cash flow curves, and contingency analyses.
- Provides estimates of cancellation costs and assesses the financial impact of deviations.
- Ensures all cost documents accurately reflect committed funds, deviation notices, field change orders, and execution changes.
- Leads the project team in deriving accurate and realistic forecasts of all funds required to complete the project within budget and schedule, utilizing trending and analytical techniques.
- Produces consistent and accurate monthly reports of cost data and forecasts.
- Alerts the project team to critical cost management issues as they arise.
- Supports project execution metrics, external benchmarking, and project closure processes.
Experience:
- Associate’s degree or equivalent short-cycle tertiary education preferred; relevant experience in cost management, manufacturing, or related fields is strongly considered in lieu of formal education.
