We are seeking a HIV Research Scientist to work on-site with the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, MD.
This is a long-term contract position which offers:

TASKS/SERVICES. The contractor shall:
(1) Create, test, and store HIV-1 and HIV-2 virus stocks taking into consideration established biosafety protocols
(2) Develop and improve protocols for the processing and differentiation of primary human macrophages and their controlled infection by HIV-1 or HIV-2.
(3) Perform proteomics studies to identify novel host factors involved in the control of HIV infection.
(4) Validate newly identified host factors
(5) Create stable cell lines expressing host restriction factors and/or knock out endogenous gene expression for the purpose of analyzing their effect on viral replication
(6) Conduct research to study the role of nuclear pore proteins for nuclear import of HIV-1 capsids
(7) Develop and apply molecular tools for confirming successful gene editing or inactivation.
(8) Maintain laboratory notebooks, document progress to support intellectual property evaluations, and maintain accurate sample tracking and data management.
(9) Discuss and report data in peer reviewed papers
(10) Support troubleshooting efforts, initiate technical support and service calls, and interact with field service engineers and field application specialists for repair and optimization of laboratory equipment.
REQUIREMENTS. The contractor must have:
(1) Ph.D. in Biology, Life Sciences or a related discipline. Three (3) years of specialized experience plus a master’s degree is equivalent to a Ph.D.
(2) Minimum of three (3) years of experience in HIV-1 basic research
(3) Experience working in a BSL2/BSL3 laboratory environment
