Bookkeeper / Staff Accountant (Contract-to-Hire)
Portland, ME 04101 | 100% Onsite | $30–$35/hr | Full-Time, Monday–Friday
We are excited to continue our partnership with a growing organization in Portland, ME that is seeking a Staff Accountant to join their team on an indefinite contract with potential for contract-to-hire. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on accounting work, managing multiple priorities, and taking ownership of projects.
The position is 100% onsite, Monday–Friday, with flexible start/end times (typically around 8:00 AM – 4:00/5:00 PM).
Key Responsibilities

Manage month-end close activities for 3–4 entities

Perform balance sheet reconciliations

Prepare accruals and prepaid entries
-
Post inventory transactions
-
Complete deposit account reconciliations
-
Handle accounts receivable reconciliations and check postings

Review and approve accounts payable invoices for correct GL coding and entity
-
Process invoices and assist with AP support

Prepare journal entries
-
Assist with accounting projects, including reconciling bank balances within the system

Support weekly check runs

Handle office accounting mail: receiving, sorting, scanning, saving, and filing
Qualifications
-
Experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or staff accounting

Strong understanding of account reconciliations and accounting fundamentals

Ability to manage projects independently and stay organized in a fast-paced environment

Comfortable working onsite and collaborating with the accounting team
-
Hospitality industry experience is a plus, but not required
-
Degree not required — candidates with strong hands-on accounting experience are encouraged to apply

Pay: $30–$35/hour depending on experience
