Job Title: Toxicology & Regulatory Compliance Specialist

Salary Range: $85,000–$95,000

Strong preference for candidates with 5+ years of experience in both regulatory affairs and toxicology

 

Position Summary

The Product Safety & Regulatory Compliance Specialist is responsible for ensuring product safety, regulatory compliance, and stewardship across a portfolio of cosmetic and/or specialty chemical products. This role supports innovation and commercialization by providing expert guidance on global regulatory requirements, ingredient safety assessments, and compliance strategies. The Specialist partners cross-functionally with R&D, Marketing, Sales, and Operations to enable sustainable growth while maintaining regulatory excellence.

 

Key Responsibilities

Regulatory Compliance & Product Stewardship

  • Interpret and apply global regulatory requirements (e.g., EU Cosmetics Regulation, REACH, MoCRA, FDA, TSCA, Prop 65, GHS) to ensure compliance for new and existing products.

  • Prepare, review, and maintain regulatory documentation including Safety Data Sheets (SDS), product certifications, technical dossiers, and compliance records.

  • Monitor global regulatory developments, ingredient restrictions, and emerging trends; communicate business impact and recommended actions to internal stakeholders.

Product Safety & Risk Assessment

  • Conduct safety assessments for raw materials and finished product applications, including toxicological evaluations and exposure risk assessments.

  • Review and approve formulations to ensure alignment with internal standards and external regulatory requirements.

  • Collaborate with R&D teams to provide regulatory and toxicology guidance during product development, reformulation, and commercialization activities.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Marketing and Sales to support compliant product positioning, claims substantiation, and ingredient commercialization strategies.

  • Respond to customer regulatory inquiries and support audit activities with accurate and timely documentation.

  • Contribute to regulatory risk management planning and compliance readiness initiatives.

Continuous Improvement & Industry Engagement

  • Stay current on regulatory updates, toxicological research, and industry best practices.

  • Identify and recommend process improvements to enhance compliance efficiency and data integrity.

  • Participate in technical discussions, industry forums, and cross-functional initiatives as needed.

 

Qualifications

Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Deep knowledge of global cosmetic and chemical regulatory frameworks (EU, US, and Asia).

  • Strong foundation in toxicology principles, ingredient safety evaluation, and exposure assessment.

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills with strong attention to detail.

  • Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate across technical and commercial teams.

  • Proficiency with regulatory systems, safety databases, and Microsoft Office applications.

 

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Toxicology, Regulatory Science, or related field (Master’s degree preferred).

  • 7–10+ years of experience in product safety, regulatory affairs, or chemical compliance within cosmetics or specialty chemicals.

  • Strong preference for candidates with at least 5 years of combined hands-on experience in both regulatory compliance and toxicology.

Work Environment & Travel

  • Primarily office-based environment with regular computer work and extended sitting periods.

  • Approximately 10% travel for internal meetings, customer engagements, and industry conferences.
