Job Title: Field Assistant – Research Seed Production
Location: Hermiston, OR 97838
Shift:
- Standard: 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM
- Field Season: 5:00 AM – 1:30 PM
- Shifts may fluctuate depending on harvest needs.
About the Role:
We are seeking a reliable and safety-minded Field Assistant to support our research seed production team. This is a hands-on position that involves a variety of routine and research-specific tasks essential to our field operations. The ideal candidate will be flexible, able to work in both indoor and outdoor settings (including inclement weather conditions), and comfortable with early-morning start times.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with field research and seed production activities throughout the season.
- Operate field equipment as needed (training provided).
- Support field operations such as planting, roguing, weeding, collecting data, detasseling, and performing field checks.
- Coordinate daily with Agronomy Supervisor and Area Specialists to ensure smooth field operations.
- Provide harvest support, including work with station processes such as husking, dryers, or conditioning (if employment extends through harvest).
- Lead small crews for detasseling and other field tasks.
- Drive a company vehicle for work-related tasks; excellent driving record required.
Requirements:
- Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
- Willingness to work outdoors in variable weather, including windy, hot, or cold conditions.
- Attention to detail and a strong safety focus.
- Valid driver’s license and excellent driving record required.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work flexible shifts as needed.
- Previous field/agricultural experience is a plus, but not required—training will be provided.
Supervision:
- Receives general instructions for routine tasks and detailed instructions for new assignments.
- Work will be supervised.
