Overview of the Position
Kelly Services is seeking a Finance Manager, R&D to support the management of external and internal expenses across a multi-year Research & Development portfolio. This role is responsible for tracking project-related financial commitments, supporting forecasting and milestone payments, and ensuring accurate expense reconciliation.
This is a hands-on, highly collaborative position partnering closely with R&D, Human Resources, and Finance teams. Pharma/biotech experience strongly preferred.
Responsibilities
R&D Financial Project Support
- Support Clinical Development and Finance leadership during vendor selection and contract review processes
- Track financial commitments, payment milestones, and expenses across R&D projects throughout the lifecycle
- Monitor projects spend and support forecasting activities
- Partner cross-functionally to ensure financial alignment across initiatives
Expense Management & Accounting Support
- Serve as backup for invoice review to ensure accuracy, documentation, and proper GL/project coding
- Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities
- Support external audit requests and documentation
- Prepare routine and ad hoc financial reports related to R&D spend and commitments
- Manage grant management funding forms, inquiries, and reporting
Cash Management & Operational Support
- Manage banking activities, including preparation of wire transfers and coordination with approvers
- Prepare bank and investment account reconciliations
- Manage bi-monthly payroll processing, allocations, reconciliations, and tax filings
- Oversee retirement plan funding, quarterly and year-end true ups
- Support annual retirement plan nondiscrimination testing and Form 5500 filings
- Assist with insurance renewals and other finance operations as assigned
Compliance, Systems & Process Improvement
- Maintain finance policies, procedures, and documentation related to financial commitments
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, and system utilization
- Ensure adherence to applicable GxP and regulatory standards
- Maintain required regulatory and compliance training
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field
- 5–10 years of relevant accounting, finance, or project finance experience
- Pharma, biotech, clinical research, or grant-funded environment experience strongly preferred
- NetSuite experience desired
- Strong analytical, organizational, and detail orientation
- Comfortable working with financial systems and advanced spreadsheets
- Collaborative mindset with ability to work cross-functionally
