Project Engineer — Electrical & Mechanical Commissioning
6+ Month Assignment for the Largest Data Center Project in History
Location: Abilene TX
Summary:
We are seeking self-motivated, energetic professionals with expertise in the commissioning of electrical or mechanical systems. As a Project Engineer, you will play a key role in the successful delivery of the world’s largest data center project. You will be responsible for the commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting of critical building systems from design through occupation phases, working closely with project teams to ensure compliance with client and industry standards.
PRIMARY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
- Commission a wide range of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire alarm/suppression equipment and controls — primarily in data center environments.
- Review system designs for compliance with project requirements.
- Participate in preparing commissioning plans and procedures.
- Conduct commissioning activities through all project phases, applying best practices and client requirements.
- Attend and document factory testing of equipment.
- Conduct and document functional and performance testing using proper instrumentation.
- Report on equipment/system performance and provide technical recommendations.
- Maintain thorough project documentation via templates and online tools.
- Coordinate and execute field activities with project teams.
- Review and support the development of commissioning documentation and schedules.
- Submit and maintain daily commissioning reports.
- Mentor and assist Associate Project Engineers.
- Respond to client and team inquiries professionally and promptly.
- Ensure compliance with all safety protocols.
SYSTEMS/EQUIPMENT EXPERIENCE
Mechanical:
- Air/Water Cooled Chillers, Cooling Towers, Air Handling Units (AHU), CRAC/CRAH units, Boilers, Process Water Plants, Hydronic Pumps, Heat Trace, Variable Frequency Drives (VFD), Variable Refrigerant Volume (VRV)/Variable Air Volume (VAV) systems
- Backup generators, gas/steam turbines, reciprocating engines
- DDC, PLC Controls & BMS
- Fire suppression, VESDA, Fire Pumps, Pre-action systems
- Domestic water, fuel systems, chemical injection, leak detection
Electrical:
- Generators, paralleling switchgear, transformers (MV/LV), Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), batteries
- Medium/low voltage switchgear & switchboards, busways, power distribution units (PDU), remote power panels (RPP)
- Automatic/Static Transfer Switches (ATS/STS)
- PLC and distributed controls, EPMS, Lighting Control Systems, grounding
QUALIFICATIONS
- Education/Experience:
- BSc/MSc in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with at least 2+ years’ mission critical commissioning experience
OR
- 4+ years’ relevant commissioning experience (mechanical or electrical systems) in mission critical/industrial environments
- BSc/MSc in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with at least 2+ years’ mission critical commissioning experience
- Proven experience in mission critical facility commissioning (e.g., data centers, hospitals, large-scale industrial).
- Organized, detail-oriented, analytical, and proactive problem solver with strong communication skills.
- Effective at managing multiple priorities independently.
- Practical understanding of testing methods, instrumentation, documentation, and client relationship management.
- Familiarity with commissioning guidelines (ASHRAE, BCxA, NETA for electrical).
- Controls, programming, BMS/EPMS experience a plus.
