  • Pay Rate: $18/hr

  • Location: Hybrid (10% Onsite, 90% Remote) – Must be able to come onsite as needed to process mail

  • Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8AM-5PM

  • Employment Type: 6 Month-Contract

What’s a typical day as a Penalty Review Specialist?
You will:

  • Process incoming Arizona Forms 285 and 290, reviewing for accuracy and completeness.

  • Prepare and process Power of Attorney (POA) or Penalty Abatement forms for entry into tax accounting systems.

  • Organize and securely store forms and all related actions (paper, email, fax).

  • Research and resolve POA and Prescreening issues; serve as point-of-contact for taxpayer inquiries.

  • Assist with proper routing of emails in AZTaxhelp inbox and provide basic tier-1 customer care.

  • Escalate complex inquiries to senior team members.

  • Process mail as assigned.

  • Apply statutes, laws, and procedures governing tax filing, penalty, and interest assessments.

  • Perform mathematical calculations related to tax, penalty, and interest per department policies.

  • Use analytical techniques for problem-solving in variable situations.

  • Work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple projects and priorities.

This job might be an outstanding fit if you have:

  • Associate’s Degree or equivalent experience; some college coursework in accounting or business preferred.

  • Two years of professional experience in tax, accounting, or related field.

  • Proficiency in Google Suite and Microsoft Office, especially Excel/Sheets and Gmail.

  • 10-Key Experience.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to understand accounting and mathematical principles.

  • Research, analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

  • Previous customer service/call handling experience.

  • Spanish speaking is a plus!
