Direct Hire Opportunity!
Location: Rockford, Illinois
Shift: 5am – 5pm and 5pm – 5am
Type: Full-time
Pay: $22–$27/hr, based on experience
We are seeking an experienced CNC Machinist to operate our large-scale CNC milling machines, machining complex components to precise tolerances and surface finish requirements. This role involves machine setup, program verification, process adjustments, and quality validation on parts weighing up to 80 tons and up to 30 meters in length. The ideal candidate has strong expertise with CNC controls (Siemens and Fanuc), machining practices, tooling, and precision measurement, and thrives in a heavy industrial environment.
- Interpret routings, engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T to plan machine setups and machining sequences
- Set up large workpieces using overhead cranes, fixtures, and rigging following strict safety protocols
- Load, verify, and manage pre-set tooling in tool magazines and tool chains
- Operate large CNC milling machines; adjust speeds, feeds, offsets, and cutting parameters to achieve required tolerances and finishes
- Perform manual machining when required
- Monitor operations and make real-time adjustments for performance and quality
- Inspect completed work using precision measuring instruments to confirm conformance to specifications
- Troubleshoot machining issues and work collaboratively with Engineering and Supervision
- Maintain safe work practices and comply with all company safety policies
- Support continuous improvement initiatives for productivity, quality, and efficiency
- Perform other duties as assigned
- 3–5 years of CNC machining experience on large or heavy equipment
- Proven experience operating large CNC milling machines or similar
- Proficiency in reading/interpreting blueprints, routings, and GD&T
- Strong knowledge of machining practices: speeds, feeds, tooling, and cutting strategies
- Skilled in machine setup, workholding, and alignment
- Capable of drilling, tapping, and performing precision machining operations
- Experience with manual operation of CNC machines as needed
- Flexibility to work off-shifts and weekends if required
- Required: Experience with Siemens CNC controls
- Required: Experience with Fanuc CNC controls
- High school diploma or GED required
- Technical training or machining certification preferred
- Ability to lift up to 60 lbs daily
- Ability to stand, walk, climb, and work in a heavy industrial environment for extended periods
- Ability to safely work around large machinery and overhead cranes
