Location: Mansfield, OH Region
Pay Range: $25–$39/hr (DOE)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m., with occasional flex hours for fermentation processes
Employment Type: 3mo Contract-to-Hire or Direct Hire DOE
 
Overview
A rapidly growing life?science manufacturer is seeking a Quality Control Microbiologist to support the testing and release of microbiology?based products used in clinical, research, and emerging food/beverage applications.
 
This is a high?visibility role suited for someone who enjoys hands?on microbiology, thrives in a regulated environment, and wants to take ownership of a wide variety of QC activities — including microbial testing, fermentation support, documentation, and cross?functional collaboration.

Responsibilities
Quality Control & Microbiology

  • Perform sterility, growth performance, and shelf?life testing on plate media

  • Conduct quadrant streaking and interpret bacterial growth results

  • Maintain microbial cultures and related equipment

  • Support QC testing of enzyme products and fermentation batches

  • Maintain accurate and compliant documentation according to FDA and ISO standards

  • Write, revise, and follow SOPs and Work Instructions

  • Execute environmental monitoring of controlled areas

Fermentation & Production Support

  • Prepare nutrient broths and media for fermentation processes

  • Initiate and maintain fermentation seed trains (primary, secondary, inoculation)

  • Collaborate with production during enzyme recovery and testing

Quality Systems & Compliance

  • Assist with complaint investigations and quality issue evaluations

  • Conduct raw material inspections and verifications

  • Perform preventative maintenance and equipment calibration

  • Maintain product stability studies and tracking

Cross?Functional Collaboration & Growth

  • Support R&D projects and pilot?scale testing

  • Participate in small?team culture, continuous improvement, and process optimization

  • Take on diverse responsibilities in a nimble organization

 
Qualifications
Required

  • Associate degree in Applied Science, Medical Laboratory Technology, Bioscience, or related field

  • Industry experience in a clinical lab, hospital microbiology lab, regulated manufacturing, or similar environment

  • Strong microbiology skills including quadrant streaking and plate reading

  • Experience following documentation practices in regulated environments (FDA, ISO, GMP, etc.)

  • Ability to work independently in a small?team environment

 
Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Biology, or related science

  • Experience with fermentation or seed train processes

  • Familiarity with SharePoint or digital documentation systems

  • Interest in career advancement into QC leadership roles
