Job Summary
The Laboratory Technical Specialist provides essential technical support to Lead Scientists and Technologist Leaders during the preparation and execution of experimental activities and studies. Utilizing WE established procedures, this role contributes to product and application development, technical service initiatives, as well as product or process research. Day-to-day tasks follow standard operating procedures to complete well-defined activities and develop core technical skills. The position requires understanding how individual tasks align with team objectives and effective communication within the workgroup.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate within a laboratory team supporting chemists and engineers in the development, screening, and commercialization of new products and processes.

  • Manage assigned laboratory work requests, ensuring safe execution and operation of lab apparatus and testing equipment; accurately document experimental data and observations.

  • Maintain a high standard of data recording using relevant equipment and instruments, understanding how your duties contribute to broader team objectives.

  • Calibrate, operate safely, and perform routine maintenance on simple to moderately complex laboratory instruments or equipment; troubleshoot and repair, or coordinate repair of, faulty equipment as needed.

  • Maintain inventory of consumable materials, chemicals, and laboratory supplies by anticipating needs, monitoring usage, and adhering to purchasing Sop’s, thereby ensuring workflow continuity.

  • Promptly communicate operational or technical issues to Technology Leaders or Lead Scientists to expedite problem resolution and maintain project momentum.

  • Actively engage in work group and departmental meetings, contributing to discussions on safety, process improvement, problem solving, and other mission-critical topics.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma (or equivalent) and at least 3 years of laboratory experience required (local requirements may vary).

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs as part of routine laboratory duties.

  • Associate’s Degree with emphasis in Chemistry, Biology, or related technology field and relevant laboratory experience preferred.

  • Experience with heavy machinery, compounding/extrusion, or R&D pilot plant operations is strongly preferred.
