Press Assistant (Contract-to-Hire)

As a Press Assistant, you’ll play a pivotal role in ensuring machinery is operated effectively, safely, and to the highest quality standards, directly contributing to the success of both internal teams and external customers.

Job Specifications

  • Job Type: Contract-to-Hire

  • Location: Walker, MI

  • Pay Rate: $18.00/hour + $0.50/hour 2nd shift premium

  • Shift: 3 PM – 1:10 AM, Monday–Thursday (First day orientation starts at 2 PM)

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Maintain consistent and punctual attendance.

  • Provide break and lunch coverage for main press operators.

  • Operate press equipment during inspection periods under supervision.

  • Handle coil loading and verify correct material selection.

  • Assemble and prepare packing materials; assist with material handling.

  • Support machine changeovers and manage disposal of waste materials.

  • Create labeling for work-in-progress and inventory.

  • Assist with two-person operations on presses as needed.

  • Complete basic operational tasks at various machines.

  • Use banding equipment to pack and secure finished products.

  • Safely operate a forklift for transporting boxes and pallets.

  • Clean floors and maintain organized workspaces.

Qualifications & Skills

  • High school diploma or GED.

  • Valid forklift operator certification.

  • Ability to read and write routine reports, safety documentation, and work instructions.

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

  • Physical capability for frequent lifting, bending, and extended periods of standing or moving (up to 40 lbs).

  • Willingness to work in a manufacturing setting with mechanical motion, noise, and personal protective equipment.
