Slitter Operator – 1st Shift (Contract-to-Hire)
Join our team as a Slitter Operator, where your mechanical aptitude and attention to detail are essential in preparing, operating, and maintaining slitting equipment to ensure materials are processed accurately and safely.
Job Specifications
- Job Type: Contract-to-Hire
- Location: Walker, MI
- Pay Rate: $22–24/hour, commensurate with experience
- Shift: 5:00 AM – 3:10 PM, Monday–Thursday (First day orientation starts at 7:30 AM)
Roles and Responsibilities
- Set up, calibrate, and operate slitting equipment for accurate coil processing.
- Load and align materials, inspect cut quality, and monitor machine operations.
- Remove finished coils, track production data, and document quality checks.
- Maintain equipment, coordinate needed repairs, and communicate requirements to the production manager.
- Uphold safety standards and maintain a clean, organized workspace.
Qualifications & Skills
- High school diploma or GED required.
- At least 1 year of experience with steel processing equipment preferred.
- Familiarity with slitting machines and basic maintenance essential.
- Crane operation license is a plus.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including interpreting safety and procedural documentation.
Physical Requirements & Work Conditions
- Regular hand use, standing, reaching, walking, and communication.
- Occasional climbing, balancing, kneeling, or crawling; lifting up to 40 lbs as needed.
- Adequate vision for all tasks; frequent exposure to moving machinery and significant noise.
- Mandatory compliance with PPE requirements.
