Production Operator II – Spooling

Shift: Swing Shift (Monday–Friday, 2:00pm–10:30pm)
Compensation: $24 per hour


Position Summary

The Production Operator II – Spooling is responsible for the semi-routine operation of spooling equipment and related processes to convert raw materials into finished goods. This role ensures high-quality output, completes in-process quality checks, maintains detailed production records, and adapts to the varied needs of a dynamic manufacturing environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Operate spooling machinery and related equipment to produce finished goods according to work instructions and quality standards.

  • Accurately maintain inventory records for raw materials and materials in process; ensure documentation and data sheets are current and complete.

  • Conduct in-process quality checks—including hardness, weight, variation, pH, and moisture content—to verify production meets specification requirements.

  • Identify, troubleshoot, and help resolve equipment malfunctions and product variances to maintain efficient production.

  • Read and interpret blueprints, subassembly layouts, and schematics to ensure proper assembly and production processes.

  • Maintain up-to-date records of orders, completed work, and inventory levels; manage materials requisitions by determining delivery needs and timelines.

  • Adjust workload distribution, manpower allocation, and equipment usage according to current inventory and schedule demands.

  • Collaborate with materials planning, production, and maintenance personnel to prepare and monitor master production schedules.

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or GED required; verification by issuing institution or copy/proof of education accepted.

  • Experience: Minimum of one (1) year relevant experience in manufacturing, spooling, or a related field.

  • Technical Skills: Solid understanding of manufacturing processes, in-process testing, and blueprint interpretation.

  • Other Requirements: Safety shoes required.

Skills & Competencies

  • Knowledge of job skills and company policies, typically obtained through vocational training and/or relevant on-the-job experience (1+ years).

  • Ability to recognize when deviation from standard procedures is necessary and exercise practical judgment.

  • High attention to detail in quality control and record keeping.

  • Effective communication and teamwork skills to collaborate across production and planning teams.

  • Adaptability to manage a variety of semi-routine and changing tasks within the production environment.

Job Scope & Complexity

  • Duties and tasks are varied and semi-routine, requiring flexibility and the ability to manage competing production priorities.

  • The role is integral to maintaining consistent output and meeting operational targets within a fast-paced spooling department.
