Job details
Kelly Government Solutions is seeking a Technologist II to perform metal finishing, mechanical assembly, and equipment maintenance tasks across shop, field, and experimental areas. The ideal candidate will work on projects ranging from individual assignments to portions of larger initiatives, with strict adherence to site safety protocols and Work Planning and Control (WPC) standards.
This role involves working in radiation-controlled and cleanroom environments, with opportunities to develop specialized skills in high-vacuum system preparation and metal finishing processes.
Key Responsibilities

Perform metal finishing tasks including chemical cleaning, vapor degreasing, electroplating (copper, gold, rhodium, nickel), polishing, anodizing, and steam cleaning.

Design and utilize fixtures and tooling for projects.

Assemble and maintain mechanical systems, including moving large equipment safely using cranes, hoists, and forklifts.

Read and interpret mechanical drawings and work instructions.

Adhere to safety, environmental, and health regulations; identify and report areas for improvement.

Communicate project progress, status, and completion timelines with line supervision.

Follow cleanroom practices and ultra-high vacuum (UHV) handling protocols as needed.

Assist in developing and documenting procedures for technical processes.
Required Qualifications
-
Experience chemically cleaning copper, stainless steel, aluminum, and other metals for high-vacuum systems.

Proficiency in vapor degreasing, steam cleaning, and electroplating.

Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings.

Experience operating cranes, hoists, and forklifts safely.

Ability to follow detailed procedures accurately and work independently or as part of a team.

Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Valid California Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
Preferred Skills
-
Vocational school, apprenticeship, or equivalent experience in metal finishing.

Basic understanding of UHV handling techniques.

Familiarity with cleanroom protocols.

Working knowledge of mathematics relevant to technical tasks.

Experience developing written procedures.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
