Research Associate, In Vivo Pharmacology
Location: Los Angeles, CA
Rate: $45-50/hr.
About the role
Our client is a public benefit corporation aimed at developing novel medicines targeting unmet patient needs. They are searching for a highly motivated and skilled Research Associate, In-vivo pharmacology to play a key role in establishing, validating, and executing in vivo models aligned with the company’s therapeutic focus areas. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to translational research efforts supporting drug discovery and development.
Responsibilities
Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Provide daily care and monitoring of laboratory animals in compliance with institutional standards
- Perform in vivo procedures including rodent handling, blood collection, dosing via multiple routes (IV, IP, SC, PO), urine collection, necropsy, and tissue harvesting in accordance with approved IACUC protocols and AAALAC guidelines
- Perform stereotactic surgeries in rodent models, particularly for neurological disease applications
- Prepare procedure rooms and ensure proper sterilization of instruments and materials
- Support the design, planning, and execution of in vivo pharmacology studies, including early exploratory models, tolerability, PK/PD, and efficacy assessments
- Conduct studies across multiple animal models to evaluate therapeutic candidates using diverse biological and functional readouts
- Plan and manage animal breeding, monitor litters, perform genotyping, identify phenotypes, and maintain disease model colonies
- Maintain accurate, detailed, and compliant records of all experimental procedures and animal use
- Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, including discovery scientists and in vivo pharmacology colleagues
- Contribute to biomarker analyses (e.g., ELISA, PCR, Luminex) in tissues and biological samples, as needed
- Apply strong organizational and laboratory management practices to support efficient study execution
Qualifications
Your profile:
- B.S. or M.S. in a relevant scientific discipline with a minimum of 3 years of hands-on animal research experience
- Strong technical expertise in rodent handling, dosing, and biological sample collection
- Solid understanding of laboratory operations, equipment, and vivarium safety standards
- Experience with animal colony management is preferred
- Proficiency with standard laboratory software (e.g., Microsoft Office, GraphPad Prism, electronic lab notebooks)
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and data integrity
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively across teams
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present data clearly
