We are looking for a strategic leader to guide our clients work in biologics. You will lead and mentor teams working on purification and analytical support, and set the strategy for scientific and operational success. You help your teams manage uncertainty, focus on broad goals, and deliver solutions that impact patients.

Job Title: Director, Purification & Analytical Development
Location: Vancouver, WA
Salary: $190,000 – 230,000
 
 Your leadership will be instrumental in:

  • Establishing and implementing strategic objectives for Purification and Analytical Development, in partnership with the executive team.

  • Leading operational units, aligning them with the organizational vision and cascading a clear functional strategy.

  • Steering our efforts on the frontlines of innovation – empowering the team to pursue what others call impossible.

Responsibilities:
Protein Purification and Analytical Development

  • Oversee the design and execution of purification processes for soluble and membrane-bound proteins.

  • Oversee analytical method development for characterization of therapeutic proteins using a variety of techniques (e.g., ELISA, BLI, HPLC, and MS).

  • Lead troubleshooting and adoption of new technologies for purification and analytical support.

  • Train and empower scientists in hands-on operation and maintenance of critical instrumentation.

  • Integrate purification and analytical strategies to support drug discovery, selection of lead or drug candidates, antibody characterization, and tech transfers.

Developability Assessment

  • Design, implement, and oversee assessment of therapeutic protein developability.

  • Develop and integrate computational, biophysical, and experimental workflows to assess and mitigate risks such as stability, immunogenicity, and expression challenges.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Ensure accurate, comprehensive documentation (SOPs, technical reports, method validations) that meets quality standards.

  • Review and interpret results from standard analytical techniques to assess protein purity, impurities, and process clearance.

  • Champion use of electronic lab notebooks (ELN), LIMS, UNICORN, Benchling, SoftMax Pro, JMP, and related platforms for data integrity and process tracking.

  • Support tech transfer and contribute to regulatory submission packages as needed.

Stakeholder Influence & Communication:

  • Represent Purification & Analytical Development with senior management, executives, and external partners—inspiring trust, negotiating on key matters, and balancing stakeholder priorities.

  • Advocate for your teams, communicate cross-functionally, and unify diverse perspectives toward essential company goals.

 
Qualifications:

  • PhD with 10+ years, or MS with 12+ years of progressive industry experience in drug discovery & analytical science, or related field—with demonstrated success leading teams and organizations through scale, complexity, and ambiguity.

  • Demonstrated mastery of purification, analytical development and developability assessment, with a track record on influencing functional and organizational strategy.

  • Deep familiarity with the competitive landscape and where Absci’s approach can break the mold.

Compensation and Benefits The salary range for this position is $190,000 – 230,000/year. The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary range for this job at the time of posting. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law Absci offers highly competitive salaries and benefits, including medical, dental, vision insurance, unlimited vacation, parental leave, employee assistance program, voluntary life and disability insurance, annual bonus potential, and 401(k) with a generous company match.
