Job Description
The Forklift Operator I is responsible for safely and efficiently operating material handling equipment—including sit-down and clamp forklifts—to move, locate, relocate, stack, and count merchandise. This role also includes order filling and checking duties, maintaining inventory accuracy, and ensuring customer service standards.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Stack and store merchandise in designated areas using forklifts and related equipment.
- Safely unload inbound shipments and move product to storage locations.
- Pull and prepare products for shipment, ensuring counts and types are accurate.
- Perform picking duties according to customer service standards.
- Move product from staging/storage areas into trailers.
- Operate all equipment in a safe, efficient manner following prescribed work methods.
- Maintain appropriate records and reports to guarantee inventory control and security.
- Assist in physical inventories and conduct cycle counts as requested.
- Report safety concerns and inventory discrepancies timely to management.
- Complete inspection forms before equipment operation.
- Use RF scanning equipment for inventory accuracy.
- Ensure proper stock rotation.
Skill/Experience/Education
Mandatory Skills
- High School Diploma or GED (preferred)
- Minimum 3 months forklift or warehouse distribution equipment experience
- Ability to stand/walk for 10-12 hours and lift/pull 50 lbs without restriction
- Regular bending, lifting, stretching, and reaching both below the waist and above the head
- Able to work in environments with variable noise, lighting, and temperature conditions; facility is over a quarter mile in length
- Availability to work irregular/extended hours—including nights, weekends, and holidays—as needed
- Must be able to obtain NFI forklift certification
- Attention to detail, basic math skills, and excellent customer service skills
- Proficient with Excel and general computer knowledge
- Basic safety understanding with equipment operation
