Senior Research Associate – Process Development
Kelly® Science & Clinical is seeking a Senior Research Associate (Process Development) for a contract position at a premier biotechnology client in San Diego, CA. Pay: $38–40/hour
Schedule: M–F, Day Shift Onsite
The Senior Research Associate in the Process Development group will be a highly motivated individual who will support processes involving fermentation, primary recovery, and purification development for internal and external protein products. The position covers aseptic technique, microbial fermentation, clarification techniques for microbial hosts (continuous centrifugation and depth/membrane filtration), and purification using chromatography.
The ability to work independently and maintain cross-functional communication are key positions. The Senior Research Associate is expected to work with senior staff to plan, execute, and present the results of routine experiments in a matrixed team environment, collaborating with strain engineering and analytical development teams.
- Daily laboratory support including experiment execution/documentation, equipment operation/maintenance, buffer/media preparation, bioreactor/shake flask sampling, and data entry and analysis.
- Operation, maintenance, and cleaning of process development equipment including fermentation bioreactors and AKTA chromatography systems.
- Conduct recovery/clarification, chromatography, and filtration of protein products.
- Execute experimental protocols and designs with minimal supervision.
- Perform minor mechanical and instrumentation troubleshooting; take appropriate corrective action as needed.
- Maintain experimental notes within an electronic lab notebook following Good Documentation Practices.
- Bachelor’s degree in microbiology, Biochemistry, Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field preferred; Associate degree with 3+ years of related experience required.
- 2+ years of Industry laboratory experience involving purification and/or fermentation.
- Experience working in a laboratory environment in industrial biotechnology R&D
- Strong communication, organizational, and record-keeping skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and sequence analysis programs.
- Ability to lift up to 35 lbs.
