Maintenance Mechanic (CNC)

Location: Portland, CT
Employment Type: Full-Time (Regular)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM – 4:30 PM (40–45 hours/week)
Compensation: $28–$41/hour (based on experience)

Position Summary

The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for maintaining production efficiency and product quality by ensuring the reliable operation of machinery and mechanical equipment used in the aerospace and defense industries. This role supports both equipment functionality and overall facility maintenance, while coordinating with vendors for complex repairs.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance on engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machinery

  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and CNC equipment issues

  • Diagnose problems by observing equipment operation and using precision measuring/testing instruments

  • Dismantle equipment and remove defective components using hoists, cranes, and hand/power tools

  • Repair or fabricate replacement parts using appropriate tools and instrumentation

  • Assist with installation, relocation, and setup of shop machinery and equipment

  • Adjust and calibrate functional components and control systems using hand tools and measuring devices

  • Minimize downtime by coordinating with production staff and promoting preventive maintenance practices

  • Maintain inventory of maintenance parts and supplies, including ordering and tracking materials

  • Communicate and coordinate with external vendors for specialized repairs

  • Support general facility maintenance as needed

Qualifications

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required

Experience:

  • 5–10 years of hands-on experience in maintenance and repair of industrial equipment

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Strong troubleshooting skills across electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and CNC systems

  • Experience with preventive maintenance programs

  • Familiarity with technical diagrams, manuals, and engineering specifications

  • Ability to work with precision measuring instruments

  • Experience managing purchase requisitions and vendor relationships

  • Proficiency with hand and power tools
