Production Technician I – Finisher / Polisher (Metals)
Location: Portland, CT
Shift Options: 1st Shift (7:00 AM – 3:30 PM) or 2nd Shift (4:30 PM – 12:30 AM)
Employment Type: Full-Time, Regular
Hours: 40–45 hours per week
Pay: $20–$26/hour (based on experience) + 15% shift differential (where applicable)
Position Summary
The Production Technician I – Finisher / Polisher is responsible for performing precision hand-finishing and polishing operations on aerospace components, including airfoil shapes. This role requires attention to detail, the ability to work with tight tolerances, and a strong understanding of finishing techniques to meet quality and dimensional requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform hand-belt grinding to achieve required finish, contour, and dimensions on airfoil components
- Deburr parts and remove imperfections to meet quality standards
- Execute finishing operations, including:
- Sizing and finishing platform radii and surfaces
- Radius chords and polishing operations
- Breaking sharp edges as required
- Sizing and finishing platform radii and surfaces
- Inspect parts for compliance with specifications, including:
- Airfoil contour, twist, and location
- T-max edge dimensions
- Platform dimensions
- Airfoil contour, twist, and location
- Work with complex geometries and tight tolerances
- Qualify new airfoil setups and configurations
- Determine appropriate belting and polishing methods for new part numbers
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Minimum 1+ years of experience in hand finishing, polishing, or deburring
- Strong understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing)
- Proficient in inspecting tight-tolerance, complex-shaped parts
- Experience with airfoils or aerospace components preferred
- Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment
- Detail-oriented with a strong focus on quality
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- 2–10 years of relevant experience preferred
- Ability to operate manufacturing and productivity machinery
- Strong communication skills with the ability to exchange information clearly
Physical Requirements
- Lift up to 30 pounds (up to 4 feet)
- Maintain a stationary position for up to 50% of the shift
- Stand, walk, or move for up to 50% of the shift
- Perform repetitive hand and arm motions for up to 60% of the shift (with breaks)
- Ascend or descend for up to 20% of the shift
- Bend, reach, and position materials for up to 50% of the shift
