Warehouse Operator I: Forklift Operator I – Warehouse
Location: Clayton, NC
Pay Rate: $19.00/hr
Shift: Day Shift B – 6:00am to 6:30pm (3/2/2/3 schedule)
Position Summary
The Warehouse Operator I (Forklift Operator I) is responsible for supporting daily operations in a warehouse environment, focused on the safe handling, movement, and storage of materials within ambient and temperature-controlled areas. This role includes the operation of powered industrial trucks (PIT), including forklifts and related equipment, to maintain efficient and accurate inventory flow, ensuring production support and on-time shipments.
Strong adherence to safety protocols, keen attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a high-performing team are critical for success in this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate powered industrial trucks (PIT), such as stand-up counterbalance forklifts, reach trucks, and order pickers, to transport, stage, and store inbound and outbound materials
- Support warehouse and production functions by delivering and retrieving inventory and materials between designated areas, including temperature-controlled storage
- Perform inventory control activities, including put-away, replenishment, picking, and cycle counts, using warehouse management systems (WMS/SAP/AS400)
- Load and unload trailers, verify pallet labels, and ensure the correct movement of goods in line with established procedures
- Complete physical and system transactions for raw, semi-finished, and finished goods, including preparation and shipping of orders
- Conduct daily equipment inspections and maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
- Perform sample pulls, inventory audits, and maintain accurate, up-to-date records and documentation
- Follow all standard operating procedures (SOPs) and support process improvements as required
Safety & Compliance
- Strictly adhere to all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements at all times
- Comply with proper gowning and contamination prevention procedures in controlled environments
- Handle all materials, including hazardous and temperature-sensitive products, per established safety guidelines and protocols
- Participate in all required training, including forklift certification, safety refreshers, SOP/review, and maintain valid certifications
Equipment Operation
- Recent hands-on experience operating:
- Stand-up counterbalance forklifts (e.g., Raymond 4250)
- Reach trucks (tall mast/short mast)
- Order pickers (cherry picker experience preferred)
- Walkie riders
- Stand-up counterbalance forklifts (e.g., Raymond 4250)
- Familiarity with warehouse technology, scanners, and basic computer use (Microsoft Office; SAP/AS400 preferred)
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 0–3 years’ warehouse or material handling experience (regulated/GMP environment preferred)
- Clear, recent experience operating powered industrial trucks (PIT) required
- Strong attention to detail, record-keeping, and the ability to communicate effectively
- Basic math and computer skills; ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Flexibility to work the assigned 3/2/2/3 day shift and provide coverage as needed
Preferred Qualifications
- Warehouse experience in pharmaceutical, GMP, or regulated environments
- Working knowledge of inventory systems (SAP/AS400)
- Cherry picker/order picker experience
- Experience handling hazardous materials and understanding the metric system
Physical Requirements
- Lift and move up to 33 lbs unaided
- Frequent walking, standing, and operation of industrial equipment (approximately 50% stationary work)
- Work in changing environments, including cold storage and freezer areas (protective gear provided)
- Tolerate loud environments and wear required hearing protection
- Pass a powered industrial truck (PIT) certification exam as a condition of employment
