Job Title: Assembly Operator IV

Location: Arden, NC 28704, USA
Shift: Monday – Friday | 1st Shift, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
Pay Rate: $25.50/hour


Position Summary

The Assembly Operator IV is a highly skilled role responsible for fiber optic assembly, testing, and process support. This individual will play a key role in manufacturing optical connectors and cable assemblies, supporting new product introduction (NPI), and contributing to process improvements.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, technically capable, and able to work independently after training. This role requires strong manual dexterity, problem-solving skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Polish and test fiber optic cables

  • Assemble and package fiber optic connector components

  • Perform fiber optic cable assembly, termination, and testing (including new and standard termini designs)

  • Set up and operate test stations for cable assemblies

  • Perform IL/RL testing and visual inspections on single- and multi-fiber assemblies

  • Conduct EFG & IPC (workmanship) inspections

  • Operate fiber router, coating equipment, and over-molding processes (as needed)

  • Support prototype builds, validation builds, and pre-release NPI activities

  • Measure components using calipers, gauges, and precision tools

  • Complete required documentation to maintain product traceability

  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and perform minor repairs

  • Follow cleaning procedures and contamination control standards for optical assembly

  • Safely operate equipment and identify operational issues

  • Suggest and support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance manufacturing efficiency

  • Train new and existing team members on processes and procedures

  • Inspect finished products to ensure compliance with quality standards and work instructions

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment

  • Communicate effectively within a team to support production goals and customer satisfaction

  • Work with minimal supervision after initial training period

  • Support overtime or off-shift work as needed

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred

  • Minimum of 2 years of manufacturing experience

  • At least 1 year of fiber optic manufacturing experience required

  • Strong hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills for delicate work

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and prints

  • Working knowledge of hand tools and blueprint reading preferred

  • Experience using electronic testing equipment (Oscilloscope, DMM, power supplies) preferred

  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel preferred

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

  • Ability to work in a cleanroom environment with required PPE (gown, gloves, safety glasses, etc.)

  • Must be able to lift and move materials up to 50 pounds

  • Ability to operate machinery and move between workstations

  • Ability to remain on feet and perform repetitive tasks throughout the shift
