Job Title: Assembly Operator 

Location: Fairview, NC 28730
Shift: 2nd Shift | Monday–Friday, 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM
Pay Rate: $30.80/hour ($28.00 base + 10% shift differential)


Position Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Assembly Operator V to join our team, specializing in advanced fiber optic assembly and testing. This role is critical to the production of high-quality optical connectors and cable assemblies, supporting both ongoing manufacturing and new product introduction (NPI) initiatives.

The ideal candidate is a self-starter with strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. This position also plays a key role in training team members, troubleshooting processes, and driving continuous improvement efforts to enhance efficiency and product quality.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced assembly, termination, polishing, and testing of fiber optic cable assemblies

  • Assemble and package fiber optic connector components

  • Set up and operate test stations for various cable assemblies

  • Conduct advanced testing using optical and electronic test equipment

  • Operate fiber routers and perform over-molding processes as needed

  • Support prototype builds, product testing, and pre-release NPI builds

  • Measure components using calipers, gauges, and other precision tools

  • Complete required documentation to ensure product traceability

  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and perform minor repairs

  • Perform cleaning and contamination control processes for optical assemblies

  • Conduct EFG and IPC (workmanship) inspections on single and multi-fiber termini

  • Safely operate production equipment and resolve operational issues

  • Assist engineering teams with new product launches and process development

  • Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce costs

  • Inspect work using quality standards, work instructions, and engineering drawings

  • Train and mentor new and existing team members on processes and procedures

  • Serve as a technical escalation point for production and quality issues

  • Support team lead responsibilities as needed

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in compliance with company policies

  • Work in a cleanroom environment while wearing required PPE

  • Support production needs through overtime or off-shift work as required

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred

  • Minimum 3+ years of manufacturing experience, including 2+ years in fiber optic manufacturing (required)

  • Strong manual dexterity and ability to work with small, delicate components

  • Experience working in a cleanroom environment using microscopes

  • Proficiency with hand tools and ability to read and interpret blueprints/drawings

  • Experience using electronic test equipment such as:

    • Optical Power Meters

    • Oscilloscopes

    • Digital Multimeters (DMM)

    • Variable Power Supplies


  • Basic to intermediate Excel skills for data tracking and analysis

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow bills of materials and work instructions

  • Excellent time management and ability to manage multiple priorities

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively within a team

  • Strong commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and move materials up to 50 lbs

  • Ability to remain in a stationary position for up to 75% of the time

  • Ability to move between workstations as needed

  • Ability to work in a cleanroom environment with required PPE (gowns, gloves, safety glasses, etc.)
