What’s a typical day as a Customer Service Representative?

You will:

  • Interact with customers by phone or in person, providing information about products and services, taking orders, canceling accounts, and obtaining the details of complaints.

  • Provide essential services, including license, registration, title, permit, or program eligibility information.

  • Ensure all necessary changes are made to resolve customer issues promptly.

  • Maintain accurate records of customer interactions, complaints, comments, and actions taken.

  • Resolve service or billing complaints by exchanging merchandise, issuing refunds, or making billing adjustments.

  • Complete contract forms, process change-of-address records, and issue service discontinuation orders with computer systems.

  • Refer complex or unresolved customer grievances to appropriate departments.

  • Determine charges for requested services, collect payments or arrange for billing.

  • Respond to customer inquiries or notify them regarding claim investigations or planned adjustments.

  • Use discretion in releasing information, researching issues, and analyzing policies to solve challenging customer service problems.

  • Handle cash transactions, reconcile balances, and prepare deposits for the bank or the state treasurer’s office as needed.

This job might be an outstanding fit if you have:

  • Customer service experience, with a talent for solving difficult customer complaints and following established guidelines.

  • A high level of professionalism, reliability, and problem-solving ability.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to maintain accurate and detailed records.

  • Familiarity with basic cash handling and transaction processing.
