Position Overview

Gibson Engineering is seeking a hands-on Electro-Mechanical Technician to support short-term production projects. This role is responsible for assembling, wiring, and troubleshooting a variety of systems ranging from cable harnesses and electrical panels to full turnkey automation equipment.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, self-motivated, and capable of taking projects from start to finish while maintaining high-quality standards and meeting deadlines.


Key Responsibilities

  • Receive and verify production materials against pick lists; inspect for accuracy and damage

  • Organize and manage job components throughout the assembly process

  • Layout, assemble, and wire electrical panels (with engineering approval)

  • Build mechanical assemblies including aluminum extrusion frames, guards, and automation systems

  • Interpret electrical schematics, prints, and technical drawings

  • Troubleshoot, test, and rework electrical and mechanical systems as needed

  • Support field service work, including installations and retrofits

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop floor

  • Continuously identify opportunities to improve processes and workflow efficiency

Additional Responsibilities

  • Assist with special projects such as building demo units or supporting sales initiatives

  • Operate shop equipment (e.g., cutting tools, forklifts) as needed

  • Support general facility operations, including crate/skid building and maintenance tasks

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required

  • Experience with electro-mechanical assembly in a manufacturing or production environment

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings

  • Hands-on experience with electrical assembly tools, shop equipment, and power tools

  • Familiarity with test equipment such as multimeters (oscilloscopes a plus)

  • Electrical license or trade experience preferred

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

  • Work performed in a manufacturing/shop environment

  • Regular use of power tools and heavy machinery

  • Ability to stand and perform physical work for extended periods

  • Comfortable working in tight or confined spaces when needed

  • Ability to lift up to 50–70 lbs

  • Basic computer skills (keyboard, mouse, etc.)

Additional Information

This is a contract position expected to last approximately 3–4 months. The role offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience working on a variety of electro-mechanical systems in a dynamic engineering environment.
