Position Overview
Gibson Engineering is seeking a hands-on Electro-Mechanical Technician to support short-term production projects. This role is responsible for assembling, wiring, and troubleshooting a variety of systems ranging from cable harnesses and electrical panels to full turnkey automation equipment.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, self-motivated, and capable of taking projects from start to finish while maintaining high-quality standards and meeting deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive and verify production materials against pick lists; inspect for accuracy and damage
- Organize and manage job components throughout the assembly process
- Layout, assemble, and wire electrical panels (with engineering approval)
- Build mechanical assemblies including aluminum extrusion frames, guards, and automation systems
- Interpret electrical schematics, prints, and technical drawings
- Troubleshoot, test, and rework electrical and mechanical systems as needed
- Support field service work, including installations and retrofits
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop floor
- Continuously identify opportunities to improve processes and workflow efficiency
Additional Responsibilities
- Assist with special projects such as building demo units or supporting sales initiatives
- Operate shop equipment (e.g., cutting tools, forklifts) as needed
- Support general facility operations, including crate/skid building and maintenance tasks
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- Experience with electro-mechanical assembly in a manufacturing or production environment
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings
- Hands-on experience with electrical assembly tools, shop equipment, and power tools
- Familiarity with test equipment such as multimeters (oscilloscopes a plus)
- Electrical license or trade experience preferred

Physical Requirements & Work Environment
- Work performed in a manufacturing/shop environment
- Regular use of power tools and heavy machinery
- Ability to stand and perform physical work for extended periods
- Comfortable working in tight or confined spaces when needed
- Ability to lift up to 50–70 lbs
- Basic computer skills (keyboard, mouse, etc.)
Additional Information
This is a contract position expected to last approximately 3–4 months. The role offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience working on a variety of electro-mechanical systems in a dynamic engineering environment.
