Laboratory Specialist I

Kelly® Science & Clinical is seeking a Laboratory Specialist I for a contract-to-hire position with the Client at their Overland Park, KS facility. If you’re passionate about supporting clinical research and contributing to the development of new drug therapies, this role offers an opportunity to make a meaningful global impact.

Pay Rate: $23.00/hour

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 11:00 AM – 7:30 PM

  • Rotating weekend coverage (typically 2–3 weekends per month)

  • Weekend schedules are communicated in advance and are volunteer based

  • Weekly schedule may flex based on weekend rotation

About the Role
The Laboratory Specialist I is responsible for the processing of biological samples collected during clinical trials. This role ensures that all laboratory tasks are performed in compliance with study protocols, Good Clinical Practice (GCP), and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Responsibilities

  • Ensure the confidentiality of clinical trial participants and sponsors while maintaining high-quality laboratory standards

  • Process biological samples including blood and urine in accordance with protocols and SOPs

  • Perform protocol-driven timed study events, including centrifugation, sample handling, processing, storage, and adherence to acceptable timing windows

  • Label, prep, pipette, and ship samples accurately and efficiently

  • Maintain laboratory equipment, inventory, and cleanliness to ensure proper functioning

  • Follow all safety protocols and participate in maintaining a compliant laboratory environment, including working in PPE

  • Report procedural deviations, issues, or resolutions to appropriate supervisory personnel

  • Support a fast-paced, high-volume workflow with continuous sample intake

  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or related laboratory experience preferred

  • 0–3 years of relevant experience in a laboratory or clinical setting

  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Well-developed interpersonal and customer service skills

  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment

  • Self-directed, motivated, and proactive in identifying study needs

  • Highly detail-oriented, organized, and quality-focused
