Kelly® Engineering is seeking a Certification Engineer for a contract-to-permanent opportunity with a leading global aerospace manufacturer in Mobile, AL. This role supports aircraft interior certification, ensuring cabin and cargo materials meet strict regulatory flammability requirements. If you enjoy working at the intersection of engineering, compliance, and real-world aircraft design, this is a high-impact role tied directly to aircraft safety and certification.

Overview
Our client is a global leader in commercial aircraft manufacturing, delivering advanced aviation solutions to customers worldwide. Their engineering teams are responsible for ensuring aircraft meet rigorous safety and certification standards across all systems and components.

This position focuses on flammability certification for cabin and cargo interiors, supporting both new aircraft development and modifications. You will play a key role in reviewing test data, approving compliance documentation, and working closely with suppliers and internal teams to ensure materials meet regulatory requirements (Part 25 and international equivalents).

Responsibilities
Flammability Certification & Compliance (?70%)

  • Ensure cabin and cargo materials comply with aircraft certification requirements (FAA, EASA, and other authorities)

  • Review and approve internal and supplier flammability test plans and reports, including witnessing testing when required

  • Develop and support compliance documentation and certification statements for major and minor design changes

  • Define certification requirements for aircraft modifications based on customer or program needs

  • Identify and resolve certification issues, providing technical guidance to engineering teams

  • Track and communicate certification progress, risks, and timelines to leadership

  • Standardize and align internal flammability compliance methodologies with industry guidance

Stakeholder & Supplier Collaboration (?20%)

  • Partner with suppliers during equipment/material development to ensure compliance from early design stages

  • Serve as a technical liaison between engineering teams, suppliers, and customers

  • Collaborate across global teams to resolve certification challenges and maintain alignment

Industry Engagement & Process Improvement (?10%)

  • Participate in industry working groups to stay current on evolving certification standards

  • Lead or contribute to digitalization and process improvement initiatives within engineering

  • Support efforts to implement automation and AI tools to improve certification workflows

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or similar)

  • 3+ years of experience in aircraft certification, compliance, or regulatory engineering

  • Experience working with flammability, interiors, or material compliance is strongly preferred

  • Ability to interpret:

    • Engineering drawings

    • Bills of materials (BOMs)

    • Test reports and compliance documentation


  • Strong technical writing skills (reports, compliance statements, technical memos)

  • Proficiency with Google Workspace or similar tools

  • Ability to communicate effectively across international and cross-functional teams

  • Knowledge of FAA Part 25 cabin interior and flammability regulations highly desired

  • Familiarity with EASA and other global certification authorities preferred

  • Understanding of Type Certification (TC) and Supplemental Type Certification (STC) processes preferred
