We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Health & Safety Officer (Occupational Health & Safety Manager) to lead and strengthen workplace safety across a dynamic mountain operations environment.
This role plays a key part in building and maintaining a strong safety culture where employees can work confidently, safely, and effectively in a fast-paced, outdoor setting. You will be responsible for developing and overseeing safety programs, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting teams working in unique and sometimes challenging alpine conditions.
This is an excellent opportunity for a safety professional who enjoys both field-based work and office-based program management—and who is comfortable operating in a seasonal, outdoor recreation environment where conditions can change quickly.
Safety Leadership & Compliance
- Develop and maintain OHS policies and procedures in line with legislation and industry standards
- Ensure ongoing regulatory compliance and manage COR or equivalent audit/certification processes
- Liaise with regulatory bodies and external safety partners
Training & Development
- Deliver safety, emergency response, and risk management training to operational teams
- Manage the LMS and ensure training compliance across all staff
- Track and report training completion and safety participation to leadership
Risk Management & Prevention
- Conduct inspections, hazard assessments, and safety audits across operations
- Work with operational leaders to identify and mitigate risks in field-based and equipment-heavy environments
- Support safety-critical functions including dispatch and slope/terrain operations
Incident Investigation & Reporting
- Lead and support incident investigations and workplace injury reviews
- Perform root cause analysis and develop corrective/preventative actions
- Maintain safety metrics and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
Collaboration & Communication
- Partner with leadership and operational teams to integrate safety into daily work
- Provide reporting, trend analysis, and recommendations to senior leadership
- Support cross-functional teams to ensure safe and efficient operations
What You Bring
- 3+ years of experience in Occupational Health & Safety or a related safety role
- Post-secondary education in Occupational Health, Environmental Health, Safety Management, or related field
- Strong understanding of OHS legislation and safety systems
- Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving ability
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, operational environment with changing priorities
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and safety management systems
Bonus Points If You Have
- Experience in ski resorts, mountain operations, construction, tourism, or outdoor recreation environments
- WHMIS, Fall Protection, or WorkSafeBC-related training
- Comfortable working in winter conditions and traveling across terrain using mountain operational vehicles
- Intermediate skiing or snowboarding ability (helpful for accessing various operational areas across the mountain)
What Makes This Role Unique
- Hands-on safety leadership in a real mountain environment
- Direct impact on frontline operations in outdoor and winter conditions
- Mix of office-based program management and field-based safety work
- Opportunity to work in a highly active, seasonal recreation setting
- Competitive compensation and benefits package, including RRSP matching
Compensation
$60,000 – $75,000 (depending on experience)
