Role Summary
Kelly Services is helping a top manufacturing company find a Financial Controller in Livonia, Michigan, to lead statutory and group financial reporting for their North American operations. The Controller will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial information and strong financial controls, including cash and working capital management. This position is part of the North American leadership team, providing timely financial insights for decision-making and supporting both US and Canada businesses. The role reports to the VP of Finance and Operations, involves leading the North American finance team, and offers opportunities to drive business improvements and career advancement. Ideal candidates are strong communicators, proactive problem-solvers, and able to manage compliance and reporting across multiple entities.

Responsibilities/Tasks:
Reporting

  • Lead the production of monthly management accounts and group submissions

  • Weekly order intake and provide commentary on progress vs monthly forecast

  • Sales, gross margin and discount analysis and commentary

  • Lead the statutory reporting to meet IFRS reporting standards

  • Overhead variance analysis and forecasting to support strategic decision making

  • Challenge and improve business performance through KPI analysis

  • Manage the fixed asset register and Tagetik IFRS16 lease management system

  • Production of forecasts/budgets for the group

  • Reporting on stock levels, providing analysis on turns, obsolescence and excess stock

  • Inventory count governance, and support on physical inventory counts

  • Drive improvements in the quality and availability of financial information, developing use of Power BI dashboards

Compliance & Controls

  • Lead compliance of the control processes and segregation of duties in line with Halma Plc requirements

  • Monitor compliance with the authorization matrix

  • Lead relationships with external auditors, tax advisors and application partners

  • Support the development of the recently implemented ERP system (Business Central)

  • Lead and ensure utilization of supporting applications Concur SAP (Expense Management), Avalara (Sales Tax) and Workday (Payroll)

  • Manage and ensure the timely and accurate Sales Tax submissions utilizing Avalara software linked to Business Central

  • Maintain compliance in line with US State Withholding and Sales Tax requirements, managing or completing registrations where required

  • Maintain Canadian indirect tax compliance (GST/HST/PST) and Support Canadian statutory filing requirements

Other Finance/Leadership

  • Management, coaching & talent development of the finance team

  • Processing of bi-weekly Minicam Inc payroll and commission calculations

  • Processing of bi-weekly Hathorn Corp payroll and commission calculations

  • Close collaboration with operations, supply chain and commercial teams to support day to day needs

  • Support the production of business cases for investments, such as capital investments and additional service centres

  • Involvement in Halma group finance activities such as M&A, Peer Reviews and Internal Audit

Requirements:

  • CPA, CMA or equivalent professional accounting qualification

  • Experience within external audit at a large accountancy firm

  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral, with an ability to communicate across all levels of the business

  • A good understanding of ERP systems, controls and processes (applications detailed above preferred)

  • Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive attitude to driving improvements

  • Manufacturing, distribution or industrial products experience preferred

  • Familiarity with US GAAP and IFRS reporting environments

  • Experience with sales tax compliance across multiple states

  • Experience managing and developing accounting teams
