Job Title: Laboratory Technician
Location: Akron, Ohio
Pay Rate: $29.63/hour
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00am–5:00pm (Onsite, No Remote)
Type: Contract (Not Temp-to-Perm, No Conversion to Full-Time)
Overtime: Eligible after 40 hours
Travel: Not Required
Position Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and energetic Laboratory Technician to join our R&D team. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting laboratory-level rubber processing and testing, including mixing, sample preparation, and both physical and chemical analysis. The ideal candidate is team-focused, safety conscious, and able to deliver high-quality results in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Follow all safety and quality policies, procedures, and regulations
- Accurately handle and weigh raw materials using analytical techniques
- Stand for prolonged periods and lift up to 50 pounds as needed
- Operate Banbury mixers, mills, and industrial cure presses to produce rubber compounds
- Use hand tools and knives to prepare rubber specimens for testing
- Utilize various laboratory rubber processing and physical/chemical testing equipment
- Troubleshoot equipment, software, and process issues
- Work with chemicals in environments with some fumes, dust, heat, and noise
- Communicate effectively with engineers and scientists
- Prioritize work and meet turnaround goals independently
- Learn and use necessary computer software and programs
- Assist in other lab areas as needed, based on training
- Adapt to specific work assignments within the lab
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required
- 1–2 years of related laboratory or mechanical experience
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite, email, web navigation)
Preferred Qualifications:
- 1–2 years of experience in mechanical or rubber/polymer testing
- 4 years of relevant experience, or a 2-year degree plus 2 years of relevant experience
