Build High-End Architectural Woodwork
Kelly Services is seeking an experienced Advanced Woodworker for a hands-on opportunity in Newburyport, MA.
This role is ideal for a highly skilled architectural woodworker who is comfortable handling complex custom projects, reading detailed blueprints, working with solid wood and veneers, setting up woodworking machinery, and helping guide less-experienced team members.
The successful candidate will bring strong craftsmanship, precision, and a deep understanding of architectural millwork from material preparation through final assembly.
Location: Newburyport, MA
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 6:00 AM–4:00 PM
Pay: $25.00–$35.00/hour, based on experience

What You’ll Be Doing
- Perform advanced architectural woodworking and custom fabrication work.
- Operate a broad range of shop equipment at a high level of skill and accuracy.
- Support Job Captains with planning, execution, and completion of complex woodworking projects.
- Mill and machine solid wood components.
- Perform panel processing using a wide range of veneer types, layouts, and cutting methods.
- Complete complex casework construction, machining, and assembly.
- Perform solid wood and veneer laminating, including curved applications.
- Build and assemble doors and install or prepare associated hardware.
- Set up and operate shapers for advanced woodworking applications.
- Set up and perform moulder work.
- Read and work from detailed blueprints with a high degree of accuracy.
- Mark up shop drawings and blueprints to reflect as-built conditions for field installation.
- Apply knowledge of field installation methods and techniques during fabrication.
- Execute curved woodworking applications, including:
- Die walls
- Paneling
- Curved interior and exterior woodwork
- Doors
- Mouldings
- Specialty architectural components
- Die walls
- Complete cut lists, shipping forms, finish forms, CNC-related forms, and other production paperwork.
- Prepare accurate weekly estimates to completion.
- Perform job-specific quality-control checks and document QC results.
- Maintain equipment and assigned work areas in clean, safe, working condition.
- Follow all safety protocols and immediately report unsafe conditions.
- Support overtime as required by production needs.
Leadership & Training
- Train and guide Woodworkers, Apprentice Woodworkers, and Helpers.
- Support apprenticeship and skill-development programs.
- Help reinforce quality, productivity, craftsmanship, and safe work practices.
- Work collaboratively with Job Captains, Shop Foremen, and other fabrication personnel.
- Maintain a professional, cooperative, and dependable approach on the shop floor.
What We’re Looking For
- Minimum 7 years of architectural woodworking, millwork, cabinetry, or closely related experience.
- Strong background in high-end custom architectural woodworking.
- Advanced experience with solid wood, veneers, laminates, casework, doors, and curved work.
- Excellent blueprint-reading skills.
- Strong understanding of woodworking materials and their characteristics.
- Experience with shaper setup and operation.
- Experience with moulder setup and operation.
- Strong math skills and ability to work accurately from measurements and specifications.
- Experience with quality-control inspection and documentation.
- Ability to work from cut lists, shop drawings, work orders, and production documents.
- Strong organizational and planning skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a production environment.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Self-motivated and comfortable working independently as well as part of a team.
- Ability to train and support less-experienced woodworkers.
- Willingness to work overtime when required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, push, pull, and move heavy materials.
- Ability to stand and walk on concrete floors for up to 10 hours per day.
- Frequent bending, reaching, stretching, twisting, and repetitive movement.
- Strong manual dexterity.
- Ability to work safely in an environment that may include dust, noise, fumes, and odors.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment.
