Associate Analytical Technician

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 40 hours per week; typically 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
Core Hours: 9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.
 

Position Summary

The Associate Analytical Technician supports Troy Knight’s laboratory team by performing analytical testing, operating and maintaining laboratory instruments, documenting results, and assisting with data interpretation. This is an excellent opportunity for an entry-level candidate or recent graduate of a chemical technician or related laboratory program.

The technician will work in a collaborative laboratory environment with approximately 10 team members. This position is a backfill opportunity supporting the continued testing needs of the Lake Jackson facility.

Key Responsibilities

• Set up, operate, clean, and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment.
  

• Perform routine analytical testing using:
  

  • Gas chromatography (GC)
    

  • Liquid chromatography (LC)
    

  • Titrators
    

  • Physical testing methods, including appearance, color, and solids analysis
    

  
  

• Monitor experiments and testing activities according to approved procedures.
  

• Make observations, calculate results, and accurately record data.
  

• Maintain complete and well-organized laboratory notebooks and electronic records.
  

• Review analytical results and assist with drawing appropriate conclusions.
  

• Unpackage and prepare sample kits received by the laboratory.
  

• Follow written procedures, laboratory standards, and safety requirements.
  

• Communicate test results, observations, and potential issues clearly to team members.
  

• Help maintain a clean, organized, and compliant laboratory environment.
  

• Support troubleshooting and escalate instrument or testing issues when appropriate.

Training and Development

New hires will complete approximately 4–6 weeks of Dow-required safety and laboratory training before handling chemicals. Following initial safety training, the technician will be paired with a subject matter expert for instrument-specific training until they are able to work independently.

Qualifications

Required

• Basic understanding of scientific and laboratory principles.
  

• Ability to follow written procedures and detailed instructions.
  

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate documentation.
  

• Basic mathematical skills, including calculations and data recording.
  

• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  

• Basic computer proficiency.
  

• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  

• Ability to maintain a laboratory notebook and accurate electronic records.

Preferred

• Associate degree, technical certificate, or coursework in chemistry, chemical technology, laboratory science, or a related field.
  

• Previous laboratory, analytical testing, or chemical technician experience.
  

• Experience with gas chromatography, liquid chromatography, titrations, or physical property testing.
  

• Familiarity with GMP, GLP, FDA, RCRA, and OSHA requirements.
  

• Experience working in a regulated laboratory or manufacturing environment.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

• Work is performed indoors in a laboratory setting.
  

• No field sample collection is required.
  

• Samples are shipped directly to the laboratory.
  

• Employees will unpackage sample kits but will not perform outdoor or physical sample collection activities.
  

• Must be able to complete required safety training and follow all laboratory chemical-handling procedures.
  

• Must be able to work safely around laboratory equipment and chemicals.
