Job details
We are seeking a dependable and hardworking General Production Laborer to support the Department of Public Works. This position performs a variety of maintenance, repair, groundskeeping, cleanup, and general public works activities. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical aptitude, be comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions, and be able to safely operate vehicles and equipment.
Shift: Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm
Pay: $15.87
Key Responsibilities
- Perform concrete repair and replacement, street patching, facility maintenance, and grounds maintenance.
- Perform limb, debris, leaf, and other material removal as needed.
- Complete general cleanup and housekeeping of work areas, tools, equipment, facilities, and grounds.
- Operate vehicles, mowing equipment, and other equipment as required.
- Perform mechanical, electromechanical, and hydraulic maintenance activities according to work orders and vendor specifications.
- Conduct preventive maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, and routine lubrication of mechanical and hydraulic equipment.
- Use appropriate tools and gauges to inspect and troubleshoot equipment.
- Obtain necessary parts through established procedures.
- Complete work orders and accurately document inspections and work performed.
- Read and follow equipment specifications, vendor instructions, and written and verbal directions.
- Perform all duties associated with the Public Works Department as needed.
- Work safely and professionally while following established safety, operating, and emergency response procedures.
- Perform duties associated with the Public Works Worker I position and other related duties as assigned.
Work Environment

- Work is performed both indoors and outdoors.
- Position may involve exposure to noise and varying temperatures and climatic conditions.
- Must be willing and able to work outdoors for extended periods, including during adverse weather conditions.
- Position requires frequent physical activity and working around vehicles, tools, machinery, and other equipment.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Previous public works, construction, maintenance, landscaping, mechanical, or related experience is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong reading, math, writing, and verbal communication skills.
- Mechanical aptitude and the ability to troubleshoot equipment.
- Ability to read, interpret, and accurately record data.
- Ability to read and understand specifications and vendor instructions.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety.
Required License
Valid driver’s license required.
Must maintain a safe driving record.
