$22–$25 per hour • Contract-to-Hire (Direct Hire Possible)
Monday–Thursday: 7:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. and Friday: 7:00 a.m.–11:00 a.m.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Kelly Services is seeking a dependable, safety-conscious Maintenance Technician for an opportunity in Kankakee, Illinois. This position is contract-to-hire, with direct hire also possible for the right candidate. The technician will maintain, troubleshoot, and repair production equipment, facility systems, and machinery to support safe, efficient plant operations. Responsibilities include preventive maintenance, breakdown response, and close coordination with production and other departments to reduce downtime.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical and electrical issues on production equipment and machinery.

  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and routine equipment inspections.

  • Repair or replace motors, bearings, belts, chains, gearboxes, sensors, switches, and other mechanical or electrical components.

  • Assist with troubleshooting pneumatic and hydraulic systems; perform basic electrical troubleshooting of motors, controls, wiring, and related components.

  • Respond to equipment breakdowns efficiently to minimize production downtime.

  • Perform general facility maintenance and repairs; install, modify, or relocate equipment as needed.

  • Safely use hand tools, power tools, meters, and other maintenance equipment.

  • Maintain accurate records of repairs and preventive maintenance; communicate recurring issues, equipment concerns, and parts needs to the Maintenance Supervisor.

  • Keep the maintenance shop and work area clean and organized.

  • Follow safety procedures, including proper lockout/tagout (LOTO), and use task-appropriate PPE such as safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, high-visibility apparel, and fall protection.

  • Stop work and promptly notify a supervisor if an unsafe condition is identified.

  • Assist with continuous improvement projects, equipment upgrades, and other maintenance-related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS

  • Industrial or manufacturing maintenance experience preferred.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills; basic knowledge of electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.

  • Ability to safely operate hand and power tools and read basic equipment manuals, diagrams, and schematics.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, respond effectively to changing priorities, and maintain dependable, safety-conscious work habits.

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
PREFERRED SKILLS — NOT REQUIRED

  • Experience troubleshooting or working with PLC-controlled equipment; basic PLC programming or controls experience.

  • Welding or metal fabrication experience.

  • Industrial electrical systems and advanced electrical troubleshooting experience.

  • Ability to read electrical schematics and control diagrams.

  • Experience installing, modifying, or upgrading manufacturing equipment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and bend, climb, kneel, reach, and work in varied positions.

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

  • Ability to work around operating machinery in a manufacturing environment.
