POSITION SUMMARY: 

The Toxicology Scientist will serve as the primary toxicology subject matter expert (SME) in supporting a range of clinical and nonclinical activities. This role involves offering expert guidance in protocol development, study design, data analysis, and interpretation for various types of toxicology studies. The Scientist will be pivotal in coordinating and developing procedures for toxicity studies, liaising with multiple internal and external stakeholders, and ensuring that all toxicological findings are translated effectively to inform project development. This position also demands expertise in regulatory submissions and an understanding of the requirements of various regulatory authorities. 

 

TASKS. The contractor shall: 

  • Provide oversight and expertise for a wide range of toxicology studies, including GLP pivotal toxicity studies, biodistribution, vaccine efficacy, developmental, and reproductive toxicity studies, among others. 


  • Serve as an SME in the creation and review of toxicology protocols. 


  • Engage and collaborate with Division Programmatic Branches, protocol teams, and other partners. 


  • Interpret and communicate the significance of toxicology study results to inform project development. 


  • Collaborate with DMID contractors and subcontractors for the effective conduct of toxicity studies. 


  • Coordinate and develop procedures related to toxicity studies as directed by the Office of Regulatory Affairs. 


  • Attend and contribute to team meetings discussing clinical and nonclinical toxicity studies. 


  • Prepare expert toxicological documentation for regulatory submissions. 


  • Understand and stay updated on requirements of regulatory authorities for toxicology studies, including IND, DDTAMQ, and NDA/BLA. 


  • Maintain current knowledge of internal policies and SOPs. 

 

REQUIREMENTS. The contractor must have: 

  • A PhD in Toxicology. 


  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in conducting/monitoring clinical and nonclinical toxicology studies. 


  • Proficient in clinical research and toxicology study protocol development. 


  • Experience with biologics and small molecules is essential. 


  • Relevant skills, education, and experience aligned with the position’s demands.
